Perched in the hills of North Hatley, Québec, Canada, this nearly 4,200 sq. ft. residence enjoys breathtaking views of Lake Massawippi in Québec’s picturesque Eastern Townships region.
Indeed, the residence’s lean and unassuming design by LAMAS Architecture and glazier Cantex affords ample opportunities for unobstructed views. To take advantage of the spectacular scenery and make their design vision a reality, the architects used Unicel Architectural’s timber curtain wall (TCW).
The spruce glulam timber curtain wall now wraps the entire lake-facing front of the 1.5-storey residence in a ribbon of glass, filling it with lakefront vistas and natural light. And because load-bearing timber mullions allowed the architects to omit several structural columns at strategic locations, the architects were able to increase the size of the glazed surface even further – to 1200 sq. ft. in total.
The TCW’s integrated lift-sliding doors – made from the same timber and glazing – open up the residence even further along the structure’s lakefront side, with the doors seamlessly blending with the TCW and providing a consistent timber look and feel throughout the residence.
