The Challenge
This $5 million dollar, 18,716 SF indoor pool and exercise facility is a two time "Mega-Resort of the Year" award winner by the National Association of RV Parks & Campgrounds. Looking to provide modern services to attract their next generation of retired travelers to the park, Sun-N-Fun wanted to make a statement with their new structure.
The Lifestyle Wellness Center’s program is comprised of a therapy spa & pool, a five-lane 25-meter indoor pool, a beautifully daylit aerobics & spinning room, a fully equipped exercise room that cantilevers over the pool deck, steam & sauna rooms, locker rooms, and access to adjacent exterior spas and pools. Additionally, LEED® Gold Certification was a goal as building materials were specified.
The Solution
The design architect wanted to express the structure by exposing it as often as possible. Glue laminated beams supported by tube steel columns on the north and a stack bond exposed masonry wall on the south span the large indoor pool. The 100-foot span is divided using two 50' glue laminated beams, which support the Tectum® IIIP roof deck panels. The Tectum roof deck offers a single-step easy installation, high insulation values and acoustical noise reduction in the pool area.
The goal for Sun-N-Fun RV Resort was a Lifestyle Wellness Center that was both healthy & energy efficient. The Wellness Center achieved these goals, evidenced by the LEED Gold Certification. Tectum IIIP roof deck contributed in credit areas including: Optimized Energy Performance, Construction Site Waste Management, Recycled Content, Regional Materials, Rapidly Renewable Resources, Certified Wood and Construction IAQ Plans.
“We wanted the ‘wow!’ factor…we like to think of ourselves as a leader in the resort and campground industry. We knew that by making a statement, it would take us that far ahead ... to what our new guests will appreciate,” said Tim Deputy, Sun-N-Fun General Manager.
