Case Study: The Jackie Robinson Museum, New York

The legacy of Jackie Robinson, the first African American to play professional baseball in the MLB, lives on at the Jackie Robinson Museum in New York City.

Rachel Robinson, the wife of Jackie Robinson, established the Jackie Robinson Foundation to honor the legacy of her late husband and contribute to advancement of students with financial need.

Completed in the summer of 2022, the aims to educate visitors on the life and legacy of Jackie Robinson, not only as a baseball player, but as a civil rights leader and entrepreneur.

Designed by , the museum features multiple exhibitions, including artifacts, media, interactive art pieces, and more. Through these thoughtful exhibits, visitors can better understand the challenges of racism and social justice in the early 20th century and be inspired by the victories of Robinson on and off the field.

EXTECH was commissioned to create a 4112 SF backlit polycarbonate backdrop for the exhibit, visible from the exterior of the building. The polycarbonate panels featured a film coating with historic images of Jackie Robinson’s life.

According to the Jackie Robinson Foundation website, “With the establishment of the Jackie Robinson Museum and its anticipated program elements the Jackie Robinson Foundation will encourage greater humanitarianism among visitors of all ages and continue to help develop the next generation of dynamic leaders.â€
