What is "Free Air Percentage"?
Our continually mentions the Free Air Percentage for the various linear bar grilles and perforated grilles that we offer. But we understand that "Free Air Percentage" is not extremely self-explanatory, so here's an explanation!
Free Air Percentage is calculated by taking the total open area of a vent and dividing by the overall wall opening. Our bar and perforated grilles offer free air percentages from 20% to 73% of the opening. A high free air percentage is beneficial because more air can enter into a smaller wall opening, reducing the cost of the wall opening and vent. However, some customers have a larger wall opening to fill, so it is our job to provide them with a vent cover that will meet their free air percentage needs.
