Dressed Up: Classy Closet Renovation in North Carolina

The Julian Price House in Greensboro, North Carolina, hadn鈥檛 seen much love for years. In fact, the 1929 Tudor mansion was featured on the most-watched episode of A&E鈥檚 series Hoarders, filled from floor to ceiling with the previous owner鈥檚 possessions.

Once the show鈥檚 crew gutted the expansive home of its contents, the new owners opened up its doors to the talents of 25 interior designers from New York to Florida. Cheryl Luckett of Dwell by Cheryl Interiors in nearby Charlotte was tasked with designing the closet and dressing space. 鈥淭o see the home go from the original condition to where it is today was pretty astounding,鈥 she says.

Finding Inspiration

Luckett treated her assignment with extra care. 鈥淎 dressing room is where you prepare yourself for the world, so it鈥檚 a place that deserves special attention,鈥 she says. 鈥淚 wanted to make sure the design kept within the style of the home but also wanted to be true to the new owners, who are two very stylish men.鈥 Her design research led her to historic British men鈥檚 fashion and its intricate details, which became her inspiration for the very buttoned-up dressing room.

Setting a Mood

The space is filled with natural light, so Luckett felt she could use a strong color to create a masculine vibe without it feeling too dark. She chose Granite Peak SW 6250 (225-C6) for the walls and ceiling, and a custom white that runs throughout the rest of the home for the trim. Everything was painted in Emerald庐 Interior Acrylic Latex Paint. 鈥淚 wanted the closet to feel like a warm, enveloping space, and Granite Peak really made that happen,鈥 she says.
