The Czech Building Academy recently named the Pavlov Archeological Park, 鈥淏uilding of the Year 2016鈥. The museum is located at an important Pavlov archeological site in the P谩lava hills near Brno in the Czech Republic, an area of outstanding natural beauty that has been declared a protected landscape area by the government.
Because the local landscape was to be a serious consideration in the museum's design, architects Radko Kv臎t Studio built a largely underground concrete structure with a few protruding turrets, the latter giving it the appearance of 鈥渓imestone rocks standing out from green meadows and vineyards鈥.
Substantial ground and rain water were potential problems and, as a result, a monolithic watertight concrete was specified.
Aware of the successful history of Xypex Admix for waterproofing and protecting concrete in underground construction, the contractor, OHLZS, selected Xypex as the structure's sole waterproofing system.
Inside, the museum combines modern audiovisual technology with traditional museum displays of the site's Paleolithic relics.
