About Air and Moisture Barriers
Air and Moisture Barriers
StoGuard® is an efficient assembly of products engineered to create an air barrier and water-resistive barrier sheathing membrane in wall construction. By protecting the backup assembly first, this fluid applied air barrier provides superior protection against moisture intrusion and air leakage, delivering significant energy savings in hot and cold climates.
Air Barriers are required in building walls, regardless of region or climate. Controlling air leakage through the building envelope is critical to achieving high building energy efficiency. Research has shown that air barriers can play a larger role in energy efficiency than increasing insulation thickness. But unlike building wrap barriers that are penetrated by staples and fasteners for their attachment, the StoGuard® System provides seamless control over air and moisture to improve building performance and occupant comfort.
The StoGuard® system includes either vapor permeable or impermeable fluid-applied membranes. Determining whether you need a permeable or impermeable air barrier primarily depends on climate and wall design.
Fluid-applied, vapor-permeable building membrane used under a variety of mechanically attached claddings, including cement board, wood, vinyl, brick, stone and metal panels.
Fluid-applied, vapor-permeable membrane used under adhesively attached continuous insulation to create a continuous air and moisture barrier for gypsum and wood based sheathings or CMU.
Trowel-applied, vapor-permeable membrane used under adhesively attached continuous insulation to create a continuous air and moisture barrier for gypsum and wood based sheathings or CMU.
Fluid-applied, vapor-permeable membrane designed for CMU and sheathing, as well as metal panels, cement board, vinyl, wood, brick and stone.
Fluid-applied vapor barrier used to provide superior protection against moisture intrusion and air leakage.
A trowel or spray-applied, vapor-permeable membrane that can be used as a water-resistive air barrier and as a continuous insulation (ci) adhesive, compatible with most commonly available rigid insulation boards.
The StoGuard® system includes sheathing joint treatments optimized for a variety of conditions and trades. Proper protection of sheathing joints is critical for minimizing the risk of moisture intrusion and unwanted air movement.
One-component waterproof air barrier used to provide sheathing joint treatment and protection. Moisture cure properties and resistance to cold conditions help to avoid costly delays related to inclement weather. Liquid-applied technology allows for easy installation at complex geometric conditions.
Non-woven cloth reinforcement that is used with Sto GoldCoat®, Sto EmeraldCoat® or StoGuard® VaporSeal® to treat sheathing joints and rough openings. Available in 4- and 6- inch widths.
Flexible, trowel-applied material that is applied over StoGuard® Mesh to treat sheathing joints and and rough openings.
Glass fiber self-adhesive mesh for use with Sto Gold Fill®. Available in 4.25- and 9.5-inch widths.
A flexible membrane for detail areas to provide flexible connections and continuity of the air barrier assembly. StoGuard Transition Membrane can be installed more simply than alternative products without the need for primers or termination mastics. StoGuard Transition Membrane Also functions as a secondary weather seal at joints in construction.
The StoGuard® system includes rough open protection optimized for a variety of conditions and trades. Proper protection of rough openings joints is critical for minimizing the risk of moisture intrusion and unwanted air movement.
One-component waterproof air barrier for rough opening protection. Rapid drying time usually allows same day installation of windows or top coating with other wall assembly components. Moisture cure properties and resistance to cold conditions help to avoid costly delays related to inclement weather. Liquid-applied technology allows for easy installation at complex geometric conditions such as wood buck or back dams.
Preformed fabric piece that speeds installation for corners of rough openings. Used with either Sto Gold Coat®, StoGuard® VaporSeal® or Sto EmeraldCoat®.
Self-adhering waterproof air barrier material composed of spunbond polyester fabric laminated to rubberized asphalt adhesive. Available in 6- and 9- inch widths.
StoGuard® Air and Moisture Barrier Systems
Seamless protection for the entire wall assembly
System Features
Protects the wall from moisture intrusion minimizing risk of water damage and associated repair costs.
Minimizes airflow through the wall construction reducing risk of condensation caused by air leaks.
Lowers energy costs by reducing air leakage and heating/cooling loads.
Compliant with ASTM E-84, NFPA 285 and ASTM E-119 for use on non-combustible construction.
Spray-on or roll-on application with standard airless pump reducing labor cost and avoiding any investment in special equipment.
Fully adhered and attached to substrate. Does not tear with exposure to weather during construction or while in service.
With its water-based formula meets strict SCAQMD and LEED VOC requirements.
Protects fully exposed substrate for an extended period of time.
Helps to protect against growth of mold and mildew.Permeable/Impermeable Fluid-applied Air & Moisture Barriers
